Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted the progress of the ‘Make in India’ initiative as it completed 12 years, saying the country has seen a transformation across sectors.
In a post on X, PM Modi said the initiative has resulted in “more made in India", “more investment in India" and “more exports from India".
“More made in India. More investment in India. More exports from India. A transformation visible across sectors!" Modi said, marking 12 years of the flagship initiative with the hashtag #12YearsOfMakeInIndia.
Growth Impact Of Make In India
Highlighting the progress made across different sectors, the Prime Minister shared data-rich visuals explaining the growth trajectory of various fields.
According to the data shared, India turned from a defence buyer to a defence exporter in the last 12 years, with exports surging from nearly Rs 690 crore in 2014 to Rs 38,400 crore, which marked 5,500%+ growth.
The data also demonstrated that the export barriers were removed, which led to its further expansion. Under the production-linked incentive schemes, exports generated Rs 15.5 lakh+ crore.
Under these schemes, production and sales also generated Rs 23.8 lakh crore. The graphic also explained the shift from dependence to domestic dominance, a move which was reflected by domestic production of 99.2% of the mobile phones used in India.
Sharing a video of Make In India, the prime minister wrote, “Make in India is about creating infrastructure, enterprise and innovation that allow India to grow and prosper!"
Launched in September 2014, the ‘Make in India’ initiative aims to promote manufacturing in the country, attract investment and encourage innovation while creating an environment conducive to business growth.
The initiative focuses on strengthening India’s manufacturing capabilities across multiple sectors and positioning the country as a global manufacturing and investment destination.
