Parliament Winter Session Today Live: The winter session of Parliament began today, Monday, and will continue till December 20, with a total of 19 sittings scheduled. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned today to meet again on November 27 due to the Constitution Day celebration tomorrow in the Samvidhan Bhavan of the old Parliament building (Samvidhan Sadan).
The government had submitted a list of 16 bills for consideration, including the Waqf Amendment Bill, to both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Of these, five bills are scheduled for introduction and passage, while 11 are set for consideration and approval.
During the session, the opposition plans to raise various issues, including the severe air pollution in northern India and ongoing ethnic strife in Manipur.
Following an all-party meeting in New Delhi on Sunday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister and BJP leader Kiren Rijiju had urged all parties to cooperate for the smooth functioning of Parliament. The meeting, held just a day before the session’s start, was attended by key leaders such as BJP National President JP Nadda, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Gaurav Gogoi, as well as T. Siva, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and Anupriya Patel.
Meanwhile, although a set of proposed bills for simultaneous elections in the country have not yet been included in the session’s agenda, reports suggest that the government may bring forward this legislation during this session.
