Yemeni Armed Forces have claimed responsibility for a missile and drone attack on a merchant vessel in the Red Sea bound for the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, saying the ship violated a ban on sailing toward Israeli ports, which is in effect in support of the Gaza Strip.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen’s military, said on Monday that Yemeni forces had carried out a strike against the Greek-owned bulk carrier Magic Seas, using two homegrown unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), a number of ballistic and naval cruise missiles as well as three combat drones.
Saree said the Liberian-flagged ship “is now at risk of sinking, and our forces allowed the crew to safely leave the ship.”
He added that “the targeting operation came after calls and warnings issued by our naval forces to the aforementioned ship, but its crew refused all of these warnings.”
“We will not hesitate to use appropriate force to prevent any ship belonging to this company that has dealt with the Zionist enemy and violated the ban on entry to occupied Palestinian ports,” Saree said.
“We affirm that the ships of this company are a legitimate target for our forces wherever we can reach, and they bear full responsibility,” he said.
Saree affirmed that Yemeni armed forces “will continue to prevent Israeli navigation in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea and to disrupt the port of Eilat until the Israeli aggression on Gaza stops and the blockade is lifted.”
Earlier in the day, Yemeni Armed Forces said they had launched a series of missile and drone attacks against multiple strategic Israeli sites within the occupied territories in response to the Tel Aviv regime’s latest acts of aggression on their homeland, and in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The spokesperson for Yemen’s military said Yemeni forces had carried out a reprisal strike against Ben Gurion International Airport, using a homegrown Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile.
Yemeni armed forces also hit a sensitive position in the Port of Ashdod with a domestically-developed ballistic missile.
Moreover, they employed a hypersonic ballistic missile to target the power station in the coastal city of Ashkelon.
The Yemeni military went on to claim responsibility for an airstrike against an important installation at the Port of Eilat with eight homegrown combat drones.
Saree emphasized that Yemeni forces will not abandon their retaliatory operations in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip until the ongoing aggression ends and the tight blockade is completely lifted.
As the genocidal war on Gaza escalated, the Yemenis enforced a strategic blockade on essential maritime routes, with the goal of obstructing the delivery of military supplies to Israel and urging the international community to take action regarding the ongoing humanitarian emergency in Gaza.
The Yemeni Armed Forces have declared they will not stop their assaults unless Israel ceases its ground and aerial offensives in Gaza.
