Tehran: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it has launched missile and drone strikes against key infrastructure and facilities at US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, describing the operation as the first stage of a “punitive response” to US attacks on Iran.
In a statement carried by Sepah News, the IRGC said early on Thursday that the United States had violated the ceasefire by targeting multiple locations in Iran’s southern coastal provinces as well as two bridges leading to the holy city of Mashhad in eastern provinces.
It said the US attacks were intended to overshadow recent funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and prevent global attention to the events.
According to the statement, the IRGC’s Navy and Aerospace Force conducted a joint missile and drone operation “hours after the enemy’s attacks” targeting key infrastructure and facilities at the US bases in Arifjan and Ali Al Salem in Kuwait, and Juffair and Sheikh Isa in Bahrain.
“The fighters of Islam will not leave the aggressions of the child-killing US army unanswered,” said the IRGC.
It also warned the United States against further military action, saying, “Should the aggression be repeated, our crushing responses will be expanded to other American bases in the region.”
