Tehran- The Joint Commission of Iran and the group known as 5+1 would be held on July 21, an Iranian senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.
Head of Iranian committee for monitoring implementation of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Abbas Araqchi made the remarks prior to a meeting with his visiting Russian counterpart Sergei Ryabkov who is currently in Iran to discuss major regional developments as well as the JCPOA with the Iranian officials.
“Ryabkov is in Iran for some political consultations as well as the issues of the upcoming meeting of the Joint Commission,” Araqchi said.
The 7th Iran-G5+1 Joint Commission session was held in April in Vienna where all participants of the nuclear deal joint commission noted their continued adherence to JCPOA and stressed the need to ensure its full and effective implementation.
Answering questions on Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s upcoming visit to New York, Araqchi added that during the visit, talks with other countries would be held, as well as bilateral talks with members of the group 5+1.
“Talks with US officials, if any, would be in JCPOA framework and on the basis of necessity,” he added, insisting that there would be no more contact with the US.
Araqchi told reporters that the US lack of commitment and its new government confrontation with JCPOA will be discussed in the next Joint Commission meeting.
He also pointed out that the meeting would be held in Vienna, but Zarif’s visit to New York, before the Joint Commission meeting, is to take part in high-ranking United Nations’ meeting, where he would discuss various issues with the participating officials.
Zarif would also give speeches in the US political centers and think tanks, Araqchi added.
