Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah Seyyed Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi said that US claim of fighting against Daesh is a lie, describing it a trick by the US to restrict the Islamic awakening and divide the Islamic world.
Shahroudi who is currently in Iraq, made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki on Thursday.
He stressed the need for vigilance and solidarity of nations, saying that the Islamic states are expected to counter Takfiri groups and US plots including tribal and ethnic tensions as well as religious disagreements.
Shahroudi arrived in Iraq on Thursday heading a delegation which also groups Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei.
Al-Maliki, for his part, appreciated Iran for the constructive role it has been playing in Iraq's political and economic scenes.
He also hoped Shahroudi and his accompanying delegation’s visit to Iraq would help promote strategic relations between Tehran and Baghdad.
Al-Maliki also contended that Iraqi nation and army’s recent victories over Daesh terrorists in the fight against terrorism are indebted to constructive role of the Iraqi Ulema in mobilizing popular forces and forging solidarity among people from all walks of life and also it is the result of the help of Iraq’ strategic allies, the Islamic Republic of Iran in particular.
He stressed that maintenance of those victories requires further cooperation of the Iraqi elites to three major factors of unity, security and national interests.
