Tehran, March 26 – Due to sale of weapons and logistical and intelligence aid to aggressors and also having a hand in the inhumane blockade of Yemen, undoubtedly, the UK is responsible for war crimes in that country, the Iranian FM spokesman said.
Britain undoubtedly has been directly involved in the war crimes committed in Yemen over the past three years through sale of weapons and providing logistic and intelligence assistance to the aggressors and helping in blockading the country, Bahram Qasemi said while rejecting allegations made in a statement issued by two British secretaries on dispatch of weapons to Yemen by Iran.
The UK is not in a position to charge others, and the country had better end its opportunistic and self-serving approach in this blind war against the defenseless people of Yemen instead of giving wrong address and escaping from its responsibility, he added.
If the UK is honest in its claims that it is trying to find a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, it would be better to urge buyers of its weapons in the war against Yemen to pave the way for stopping the conflict and putting an end to the oppressive siege of the country and for preparing the ground for Yemeni-Yemeni talks.
It is quite clear for the public opinion that the war crimes committed in Yemen should be blamed on the weapons provided by the US and the UK, he said.
Certainly such a blame game and accusations cannot strip the countries supplying weapons to the Arab coalition in the war on Yemen, of their responsibility in this regard, Qasemi reiterated.
Since the start of invasion of Yemen by the Saudi-led coalition, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized the fact that the crisis has a political solution.
Iran has never prevented the establishment of a ceasefire, and has repeatedly expressed its readiness to find a political solution between the warring parties, he said referring to a four-article plan offered by Tehran to address the crisis in Yemen.
