The 13th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC members (PUIC) started here on Tuesday with the attendance of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani.
Rouhani and Larijani are scheduled to deliver their opening speeches at the Tehran PUIC conference which is hosting 16 parliament speakers, 14 vice speakers and several parliamentary delegations from 44 Islamic countries.
The five-day PUIC conference which is slated to conclude on Wednesday focuses on the questions of the World of Islam including the Palestine cause as well as political affairs and foreign relations, human rights, women and family affairs, cultural and legal affairs, dialogue of civilizations and religion, economic affairs, and the environment.
Prior to convention of the conference the following preparatory sessions at expert level have been held since Saturday: The 39th Meeting of the PUIC Executive Committee, the 8th Meeting of the Standing Committee on Palestine, the 3rd Consultation Meeting of Secretaries General of Member Parliaments, Consultation Meeting of the Arab Group, 6th Meeting of the Standing Specialized Committee on Political Affairs and Foreign Relations, 6th Meeting of the Standing Specialized Committee on Human Rights, Women and Family Affairs, 6th Meeting of the Standing Specialized Committee on Cultural and Legal Affairs and Dialogue of Civilizations and Religions, 6th Meeting of the Standing Specialized Committee on Economic Affairs and Environment, Deadline for submission of nomination of candidates for the Executive Committee and the four Standing Specialized Committees, 20th Session of the PUIC General Committee, 7th Meeting of the Muslim Women Parliamentarians, Open Ended Drafting Committee chaired by the rapporteur of the conference and participation of the rapporteurs of the four Standing Specialized Committees to Draft the Final Communiqué of the Conference, Consultation Meeting of the African Group, and Consultation Meeting of the Asian Group.
