Big world powers are still in pursuit of creating rifts among nations and states in the region, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani warned on Wednesday.
'I hope rulers in certain countries in the region understand the reality and help promote solidarity and convergence among regional nations,' he said at the weekly cabinet meeting.
The Iranian president condemned the approach adopted by the United States and Zionist regime in the region, saying that the enmity of Washington and Tel Aviv toward the countries in the region is not a source of surprise.
'For years, the hegemonic powers have been plundering the wealth of the region and in return they supply the countries with their weapons to keep the flames of war burning in the region,' Rouhani said.
He also criticized Saudi Arabia for its animosity towards the nations in the region. 'The question is why the Saudis have started such animosity and what gains Riyadh can achieve by taking such an approach,' he said.
'Iran and Saudi Arabia have a long history of friendly and brotherly relations,' President Rouhani added.
He warned Riyadh for its hostile approach towards the Syrian and Iraqi people, asking, why you continue to prop up Daesh (ISIS) terrorists and unleash them on the people in the region.
'Why you continue dropping bombs on the people of Yemen?' he asked.
Elaborating on Iran's approach in the region, President Rouhani said that Tehran is after establishing and bolstering regional stability and confronting any move aimed at changing the geographical borders.
'Iran is proud to be on the path of confronting Daesh terrorists in Iraq and Syria and foiling their plots,' he said.
