The move by Iranian armed forces and Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) against terrorsits in Syria is a symbol of Iran’s national authority, said the government spokesman on Tuesday.
“The authority showed that the measure by the IRGC was not only for protecting our own security, but for the whole region’s security,” added Mohammad Baqer Nobakht in a press conference, referring to the missile strike by IRGC against the terrorist group Daesh (ISIS) positions in Syria on Sunday evening.
IRGC announced on Sunday night (June 18) that in a retaliatory attack, it had targeted Daesh command center in Eastern Syrian Province Deir ez Zor.
The spokesman made an analogy between the missile attack and the terrorist incident on June 7 by Daesh in Iran’s parliament and Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum, saying that the latter created national solidarity against terrorism.
In reaction to the terror attack in Tehran that left 18 people killed, IRGC vowed that it would not allow the spilling of innocent blood to go unanswered.
“Daesh is a terrorist organization that has disturbed the region’s security, and the measure showed that Iran considers the security as a top priority in its fight against terrorism,” he affirmed.
The neighboring countries should be happy with Iran's authority, and feel secure, the official said, adding that Iranian armed forces are identifying terrorism hubs in Iran and completing their military move.
