Head of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Iran thanked Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei for ordering the Iranian officials to provide education for the Afghan children.
Speaking in a local ceremony, Irina Cornici said that the UN Refugee Agency is thankful of the Leader of Islamic Revolution's order that provides Afghan refugees' access to knowledge and education in Iranian schools.
Iran has for years been hosting over 3 million Afghan immigrants despite the West's sanctions, and tries to improve the living conditions of these war-stricken refugees.
More than 350,000 Afghan refugee children are now in school. And in the last year, thanks to a decree from Iran’s Supreme Leader, 48,000 undocumented Afghan children were allowed to enroll for the first time in public schools.
