A senior Yemeni official described the recent action by Saudi Arabia to break off relations with Qatar aimed at taking control over the region.
Saleh Ali al-Sammad, President of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, made the remarks on Tuesday in reaction to Saudi Arabia's and its allies’ decision to cut ties with Qatar.
“Riyadh tries to make other states obedient to its authority,” al-Sammad said.
The reason of disagreement between the members of Arab coalition against Yemen is that Saudi Arabia wants to take control over the members and deprive them of their right to decide, he added as Yemeni Saba News Agency reported.
He then called on the regional countries to make themselves free of US-Saudi domination.
He also urged the regional states to think of preserving their nations’ interests and respect international regulations and conventions.
He, at the end, expressed hope that the regional countries would be as brave as Yemeni nation in order to stand against the enemy’s violation.
Certain Arab Persian Gulf countries announced that they had cut diplomatic and political ties with Qatar, accusing the country of supporting terrorism and meddling in the internal affairs of other states. Doha has rejected the accusations calling them baseless.
In a concerted action, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plus Egypt cut their relations against Qatar, followed by some other Arab states. They also closed transport links with the gas rich country which is highly dependent on imports to meet its needs.
