Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Wednesday that Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano’s imminent visit to Iran is in tantamount to decisive support of the international body for the 2015 nuclear deal.
Amano’s visit to Tehran comes in continuation of the reciprocal meetings between the agency’s directors and Iranian relevant officials with the aim of reviewing the latest situation of cooperation between the two sides in various fields related to the international pact, issues of safeguards and nuclear collaboration in peaceful sectors.
Iran reached a historic agreement, officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2015 with major world powers to swap sanctions relief with curbs on certain aspects of its nuclear program.
Amano who has in all his reports verified Iran’s full compliance with the deal is to arrive in Tehran on Saturday at a time when the US officials have leveled baseless allegations against Iran regarding JCPOA, he said, noting that the trip strongly signifies resolute support of the IAEA for the JCPOA.
